Changes to German regulations. Check them before you hit the road.

Do you drive to Germany? Since 1 July, new regulations have come into effect that many drivers still don’t know about.

If you work in Germany or regularly drive there, this information could help you avoid an expensive fine.

No more counting on a traffic fine simply “expiring.”

As of 1 July 2026, German authorities have up to 6 months to initiate proceedings for a traffic offence. Previously, the limit was only 3 months. This change also applies to drivers from Poland.

But that’s not all.

Germany is also introducing additional measures:

🚗 automatic licence plate scanning during parking enforcement,

📱 updated regulations governing the use of the digital driving licence,

💶 fines of up to €30,000 for trading penalty points and other serious offences.
